Abstract

This study explores the integration of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) in the Usul al-Fiqh subject for upper secondary students of Religious Studies in Malaysia, which supports the Malaysian Education Development Plan 2013-2025. This study examines the needs of teachers to have structured teaching modules based on Manhaj Usul al-Fiqh of Imam al-Syafi'i. Interviews were conducted with four Islamic Sharia Education teachers in Kuala Lumpur, which revealed that there is an urgent need to develop innovative teaching modules for teachers to facilitate Usul al-Fiqh teaching. This initiative aims to improve the Usul al-Fiqh pedagogical approach to enhance students’ learning.
