MEDIA FRAMING ON THE “MESH HECK” PAGE AND ITS ROLE IN SHAPING TRENDS OPPOSING THE POLICIES OF THE PALESTINIAN AUTHORITY, THE 2023 PALESTINIAN TEACHERS’ STRIKE AS A MODEL

Abstract

This paper examines the media framing strategies employed by the “Mesh Heik” Telegram channel in its coverage of the 2023 Palestinian teachers’ strike, and its role in mobilizing public opinion against the policies of the Palestinian Authority. The study focuses on identifying the dominant media frames, the key issues and themes highlighted, and the techniques of emphasis and satire used in the channel’s posts, drawing on the theoretical framework of media framing. The research adopts a descriptive–analytical methodology and uses a media content analysis form to analyze all posts published by the channel between 5 February and 26 April 2023. The exclusive sample includes 214 posts published during the 80 day strike. The findings indicate that “Mesh Heik” primarily relied on human-interest frames, followed by economic frames, enabling it to appeal to broad segments of the Palestinian public whose needs and concerns are closely tied to these two dimensions. The channel maintained a clear oppositional stance toward the Palestinian Authority by strongly supporting the Unified Teachers’ Movement and criticizing the General Union of Teachers for its alignment with the Authority. Its coverage further highlighted issues of financial corruption, arguing that such misconduct undermines the government’s justification for ignoring teachers’ livelihood demands. It also emphasized the role of security forces in suppressing teachers during the strike. Additionally, “Mesh Heik” used various derogatory labels to describe the Authority, reflecting its editorial orientation. The channel effectively employed visual aids -such as images and press statements- to enhance credibility, while maintaining a satirical tone through the use of memes and comics. This study contributes to the literature on Palestinian digital media by illustrating how online platforms shape oppositional public opinion and mobilize audiences through strategic framing.

برغم الحصار الالكتروني لمنصات الإعلام الرقمي المعارضة لسياسات السلطة الفلسطينية، إلا أن صفحة "“مش هيك”" عادت مرارًا وتكرارًا بعد جولاتٍ من الحذف والحظر، وقامت بدور الرقيب والمحرض على السلطة الفلسطينية، وبشكل بارز إبان مقتل الناشط المعارض "نزار بنات “عام 2021، وخلال أزمة جامعة النجاح عام 2022، ومن هذا الدور جاءت هذا الورقة لتسلط الضوء على طبيعة التأطير الإعلامي الذي استخدمته صفحة "“مش هيك”" عبر منصة التليغرام، ودورها في الحشد ضد سياسات السلطة الفلسطينية، إضافةً للقضايا و المضامين المستخدمة في تغطيتها لإضراب المعلمين في النصف الأول من عام 2023، وذلك من خلال توظيفها لنظرية الأطر الإعلامية. واعتمدت هذه الورقة في سبيل الإجابة عن مشكلة وأسئلة الدراسة على المنهج الوصفي التحليلي، بالاستعانة باستمارة تحليل المضمون الإعلامي كأداة بحثية لتحليل المنشورات خلال الحد الزمني من 5-2-2023 وحتى 26-4-2023، وفقًا لعينة حصرية رصدت من خلالها منشورات الصفحة خلال 80 يومًا من إضراب المعلمين، حيث بلغ عددها 214 منشور.  وكان من أبرز نتائج الدراسة هي اعتماد صفحة "مش هيك" على الأطر الإنسانية في تغطيتها لقضية إضراب المعلمين ومن ثم الأطر الاقتصادية وهو ما يمكنها من حشد مختلف شرائح الجمهور الفلسطيني نتيجة لملامسة الإطارين لحاجات واتجاهات الجمهور، كما واصلت "مش هيك" معارضتها للسلطة وسياساتها من خلال دعمها لحراك المعلمين الموحد على حساب "الإتحاد العام للمعلمين" المعروف بتبعيته للسلطة ، إضافةً لتركيزها في تغطيتها على الفساد المالي الذي لا يبرر للحكومة الفلسطينية تجاهلها لمطالب المعلمين المعيشية، ركزت التغطية أيضًا على دور الأجهزة الأمنية في استهداف المعلمين وقمعهم، واستخدمت "مش هيك" بأريحية التوصيفات المختلفة للسلطة بما يتناسب مع توجه الصفحة وأهدافها،  فمن "سلطة العار، لدكاكين السلطة، و سلطة فاسدة، وسحيجة ومناديب..وغيرها". كما أتقنت "مش هيك" استخدام وسائل المساعدة والإبراز في تغطيتها لإضراب المعلمين، فاستعانت بالصور والبيانات الصحفية لمنح تغطيتها مصداقية إخبارية، دون أن تنسَ لمستها الساخرة من استخدامٍ للميمز والكوميكس. وكمنت أهمية هذه الدراسة باعتبارها رفدًا وإضافةً للدراسات التي تتناول منصات الإعلام الرقمي الفلسطينية، ودورها هذه المنصات في تشكيل اتجاه ورأي معارض لسياسة السلطة الفلسطينية، وتحشيد الجمهور من خلال تغطيتها الإعلامية
