Abstract

Preservation of religion is one of the purposes of shari’ah. The importance of preserving religion is at the forefront of the importance of preserving life, intellect, dignity and lineage and lastly property. Therefore, as a human being who is given the status of a caliph, it is forbidden to do things that are contrary to Islamic law. The objective of this study is to explore the concept of shariah-compliant tourism in terms of preserving the religion of ‘hifz al-din’. The qualitative technique employed in this study is based on references and research such as articles, journals, books, empirical studies, and the findings of interviews with different informants from an academic perspective. The results of the study also found that this shari’ah-compliant tourism package is very important because it is in accordance with the perspective of maqasid shari’ah, namely in the preservation of religion to lead social well-being and the general interest of ‘maslahah’. The study also found that the preservation of religion in shari’ah-compliant tourism packages is strongly encouraged in tourism to meet the needs of human nature and at the same time tourism should not be contrary with shari’ah as outlined in Islamic teachings. In this sense, Islam has established criteria to ensure that tourism activities or packages are compliant with Islamic law while also respecting the ideal of religious preservation.
